Lyle Borden moved to Ottawa in the fall of 1981 with his partner from Halifax N.S. Shortly after settling here, he became involved with Gays of Ottawa by teaching self-defence classes to the community. This was in response to the increasing violent attacks on members of the LGBT community.
In the early 1980's Lyle and his partner became involved as volunteers with both Pink Triangle Services and EGALE. His involvement in these organizations lasted many years and at one point was a member of the Board of Directors for PTS. He was very involved with both organizations' annual fund raising campaigns and subsequent Galas.
Lyle was also a member of the LAMBDA professional group for a number of years.
In 2008, Lyle became involved with OSPN and has been involved ever since. He has sat as a committee member on the Training Committee, the Housing Committee, the End of Life Choices Committee, chairperson and member of the Social Spaces Committee and as a member of the Coordinating Committee. Through involvement with the partnership of OSPN and the Good Companions Centre, Lyle has given self-defence classes and taken part in the Seniors Helping Seniors program.
In 2015, Lyle joined the Swirl and Twirl organizing committee which holds a wine, beer and food-tasting fundraising event each spring.
